Description

An exceptionally fine complex of steadings set on a steep
hill behind Rossie Farmhouse. Mostly 19th century in date, but
the earliest buildings are 18th century. West block: double
range with single storey whinstone walls, droved dressings,
pantile roofs, skew gables, simple collar-beams roofs. East
face has a 5 bay open ashlar arcade with segmental arches and
square piers. Main block: composed of a square of parallel
traditional ranges with additional ranges to east side above
the farm road. (Modern shed is not included). Single storey
vernacular ranges, rubble walls, ashlar quoins, skew gables
with block finials, old pantile roofs with hipped ends. - Mid
19th century range towards east side has open collar-beam
roof supported by cast-iron columns. Longer range to east
side has an outside stone stair with metal handrail to gable
end. Perch and pigeon-hole above.
