Probably 17th century. Beehive dovecot with low piend
roofed addition projecting to side (and which was almost
cetainly a windmill originally). Roughly coursed rubble,
formerly harled, with string course below 17 flight
holes under former eaves. Low doorway. Former conical
slated roof collapsed. Originally 762 nesting boxes of
unusual form. Pantiled roof to piended extension with
opening by dovecot.
It has been suggested that the nesting boxes in lower
part were removed in order to provide holes for
Cromwell's cannons before Battle of Dunbar, 1650. The
scale of the dovecot makes it eligible for having once
been the tower of a windmill.
