Description

Earlier 19th century with later 19th century additions.
Single storey gate lodge. Cream ashlar sandstone with
base course.
ELEVATION TO DRIVE: advanced wall at left, recessed to
centre and right, originally fronted with latticed loggia
(removed recently). Recessed section with door and 2
flanking windows all with round heads, raised keystones
and voussoirs at impost level and additional door in
re-entrant angle at left. Similarly detailed windows to S
and bowed N bays. Rear wing and addition in angle, obscuring
1 window of bow.
Small-pane windows in sash and case form. Polygonal ashlar
stack with coping at centre. Overhanging eaves with timber
brackets to original lodge, piend-roofed; grey slates.
Rusticated ashlar piers, one retaining urn finial.

Statement of Interest

Former "Chinese" porch is regretfully absent. Gate lodge

to Thurston House (demolished). East Lodge and Dovecot

listed separately.
