Late 18th century. 2-storey 3-bay gabled farmhouse.
Harled red rubble sandstone with ashlar margins.
S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: small-pane fanlight to off-
centre door. Windows flanking and to each 1st floor bay,
under eaves. Wide right bay.
N ELEVATION: 3-bay, grouped as above, with windows to
each floor at each bay; ground floor window to left,
slightly wider with timber mullion to bipartite light,
and that at centre blocked.
W GABLE: red rubble, single storey, piended pantiled
outbuilding adjoining at right. Walled garden abutting
at S, and N angle of house.
E GABLE: former gabled outbuilding adjoined at left, now
removed, with curtain wall and doorway remaining, 1st
floor window slightly off-centre to right, now blocked
with small square light inserted.
12-pane glazing pattern to sash and case windows. Grey
slates. Gable end stacks.
INTERIOR: good early 19th century cast-iron fire baskets
retained. Early electric light fitting in position in
ground floor front room. Winding timber stair at centre
with decorative timber balustrade.
RETAINING WALLS: high rubble walls enclosing garden to W
of house, adjoined to house.
Depth of house is striking. Overlooks East Barns
steading. Property of Hay family in 19th century.
