Lime Kiln, Wainmans Bottom, in front of Carr Head
II
Lime kiln, probably late C18 draw kiln, of roughly dressed coursed stone. It is built into a steep slope which is almost certainly artificially enhanced, with a charging ramp to the left. Semi-circular in plan, with an elliptical arched entrance c.1.5 metres high. Total height of c.4 metres, this rising to just above the upper ground level. Above the entrance, a pointed relieving arch. Interior overgrown at time of inspection, but with internal chamber complete with possible ledge at rear. Said to be remaining one of 15 in vicinity near to local becks.
