Formerly known as: The Thatched Cottage MAIN STREET.
2 cottages, now house. Cruck truss dated c1475 by recent
dendrochronology, remainder of structure C16, re-fronted in
C19; extensive restoration in 1984. Timber-frame with front
wall of painted brick on blue lias plinth and with attached
blue lias wall to left; some exposed timber-framing and rubble
to rear; thatched roof with 2 brick stacks to front of ridge.
3-unit plan.
EXTERIOR: single-storey plus attic; 3-window range. Entrance
to right of centre has C20 plank door and thatched hood on
corbels. Windows have timber lintels and C20 3-light
small-paned casements. Gabled roof. 2 C20 raking dormer
windows.
Left return has exposed cruck truss with cruck spurs, trenched
principals and enlarged first-floor window.
Rear has C20 brick wing.
INTERIOR: stone flags and exposed square framing to cross
walls and rear; restored fireplace with original domed brick
bread oven. Roof has 2 exposed trusses with curved principals
and collars; chimney breast clad in C20 timber-frame.
