Terraced houses. c1825. Probably designed by Amon Wilds and
Charles Augustin Busby. Stucco. Roof obscured by parapet.
EXTERIOR: 4 storeys and attic over half basement, No.139 with
an additional storey added above parapet in the C20. 3 windows
each. The units conform to a type, a description of which
follows. Front treated as a full-height and nearly full-width
segmental bay. Stairs up to round-arched entrance with
fanlight, those to Nos 137 and 138 paired, No.139 to left
party wall. Each entrance set under a shallow porch consisting
of a pair of Tuscan pilasters and entablature. Ground floor
treated as banded rustication, 2 windows to side of entrance
have keyed lintels. All windows flat arched with projecting
sills; those to first floor and above have architraves; each
first- and second-floor windows have, in addition, an
entablature with projecting cornice. Some sashes of original
design with margin lights remain: second-floor windows of Nos
137 and 138, 4 x 4; third-floor windows of No.137, 2 x 4, with
the top sashes of 2 panes to the rest; attic windows of
No.137, 2 x 2, top sash of 2 to right-hand window in No.138
and to left- and right hand windows of No.139. There is a
projecting cornice between third floor and attic. Each unit
has a first-floor balcony, those to Nos 138 and 139 have
cast-iron brackets and railings. Stacks to party walls.
INTERIOR: not inspected. Railings to stairs and areas.
Nos 137-140 Marine Parade and Bristol Court, Nos 141, 142 and
143 Marine Parade (qv) form a group with Eastern Terrace.
