Terraced houses. c1826. Designed by Charles Augustin Busby.
Stucco, brick in Flemish bond; artificial stone. Roofs of Nos
16-17, 19-20, 22-23, and 25 of slate, the rest obscured by
blocking course.
EXTERIOR: Nos 15, 18, 21, and 24 three storeys and attic over
basement. 3 windows each. Design similar to Nos 1-11 Portland
Place (qv) and part of the same development. Every third unit,
numbered 15, 18, 21 and 24, treated as a porticoed bay. The
entrances to Nos 18, 21, and 24 are round arched with
decorative glazing to the fanlights of Nos 18 and 21; the
entrances of Nos 15 and 16 have been combined into one
flat-arched entry. The ground-floor windows of the porticoed
bays are round arched. The remaining ground-floor entries are
flat arched with overlight glazing of original design to Nos
19-20, and 22-23. Balconies with cast-iron railings and
brackets to French doors on first floors of Nos 16-17, 19-20,
22-23, and 25, the rest with cast-iron balconettes to the
same. The French doors to No.17 have architraves. The block is
in excellent condition with many more original features
surviving than exist on Nos 1-11 (qv); an exception is No.25
which has been resurfaced in cement stucco through the second
floor. Sashes of original design to Nos 16, 17, 19, and 20;
No.15 to second floor and attic, No.18 to first, second and
attic floors, No.21 to all but attic, Nos 22-23 to all but
ground floor. All first-floor windows have margin lights. 3
segmental-arched dormers to Nos 16-17, 19-20, 22-23, and 25.
Stacks to party walls.
INTERIOR: not inspected. Railings to stairs and areas.
These form a group with Nos 1-14 Portland Place (qv).
