Terraced town house. c.1675 with some early C.19 alterations, part of
Barbon's development of the York House estate. Stucco faced, original
brown brick exposed to rear, slate roof. 3 storeys, basement and dormered
attic. 6 windows wide. Entrance in 3rd bay from left, recessed panelled
door and fanlight in early C.19 stucco pilaster surround with entablature
and blocking course. Very slightly recessed sashes with exposed box
frames, the flat arches with carved head and lion mask key blocks.
Rusticated quoin pilasters; plat bands over each floor running across key
blocks; parapet, panelled in line with windows, crowned by moulded coping.
Rear has flush framed glazing bar sashes under flat gauged brick arches.
Wrought iron area railings with urn finials. Interior retains some
original and late C.18 features: bolection panelling to hall and to rear
and front rooms on 1st floor; the 2 front rooms have shallow, geometrical
patterned, late C.18 plasterwork ceilings and friezes in the Adam manner,
the north room with a carved wood chimneypiece set in coved recess between
small secondary staircase and cupboard; the south 1st floor rear room has
overmantel carved in light relief; the main stairs with narrow open well
have turned balusters with-carved cut strings to lower flights and closed
moulded strings to upper flights, panelled dado; etc.
