House. Late C17 but incorporating an earlier timber-framed structure; C19
additions and alterations. Brick (in part cladding timber framing): (stone
slate gable-end roof). Plan; hall and W wing, with rear outshut rebuilt in C19
but containing a late C17 stair. The wing is timber framed with jowelled posts,
brick clad in the late C17; the hall range appears to be entirely late C17. A
rear service wing was added in the later C19. 2 storeys. Roadstone elevation:
2 1st floor windows with brick window arches and 12-pane Yorkshire sashes; 2
small ground floor windows with entrance into outshut. The service wing is set
back with outside stairs to upper floor. S elevation: cross wing end wall (to
W) with one C19 casement window to each floor. The position of the SE jowelled
post is visible where the brickwork is disturbed. Hall range also with one C19
casement window to each floor. Rear (w) with C19 casement windows and a C20
stack. Interior: wing with jowelled corner posts (one clearly visible, the
other concealed); side purlin roof. Hall range with ceiling beam, chamfered
with hollow step stairs. A change in ceiling level adjoining the cross-wing
wall may mark the position of a former smoke bay. To rear, in site, but now
incorporated into a rebuilt outshut, late C19 dog-leg stair with shaped pendants
and caps to newels, stick balusters (renewed).
