House, C15 with alterations mainly of early C17 and early c19. Built as a 3-
cell open hall house of one storey with attics; a 2-storey crosswing set
forward to left (added probably in C16), and a rear wing added to right in
early C17. Timber-framed, encased at the front in early c19 gault brick.
Plaintiled roofs; one recessed C19 sash-window dormer at the centre. A large
axial early C17 chimney of red brick in the rear wing has a frieze of moulded
terracotta panels forming a diaper pattern at the base, and a group of 6
octagonal flues. Early C19 windows with flat arches of gauged brick and
small-pane sashes. C19 entrance doorway: panelled door with the upper half
adapted to give a small-paned glazed panel. Above is a blind fanlight with
semi-circular arched heads of gauged brick and painted raised keystone and
springing stones. Interior: The open hall has twin 4-centred arched service
room doorways and another from hall to parlour. The service cell was
remodelled to incorporate a crosswing, probably in C16; the framing is
concealed, but there is some evidence for a jettied upper floor on two
consecutive sides. In C16 a large open fireplace was added to rear of hall
and a 1st floor inserted. In early C17 the parlour cell was remodelled,
including a fine plaster ceiling with cherubs, fleurs-de-lys and other motifs.
A rear single-storey extension of c.1980.
