House, built as an inn, in 3 sections: a range to left and a wing to rear,
both of c.1600; and a section to right rebuilt in mid C19. 2 storeys.
Timber-framed, encased at the front in mid C19 brick, now painted; corner
pilasters, and the left-hand range has a parapet. C19 pantiled roofs. Mid
C19 small-pane sashes with splayed reveals and cambered heads. Two C19 6-
panelled entrance doors. The front range has good close studding and a long
original mullioned window, blocked. The rear range has a series of lodgings
at 1st storey, approached by a gallery on the north side, lit continuously on
the north by open balustrading with turned balusters in rows of 4 between each
post. At the gable end is an oversailing tiebeam with leaf-carving. Ovolo-
moulded main beams. A rare example of a rural galleried inn of this period,
and thus of special interest despite C19 alterations.
