House. Late C16, altered in C20. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with
handmade red clay tiles. 4 bays facing W, with axial stack in second bay from
right end. C18 extension with gambrel roof to rear of left end. C20 stair
tower to rear of stack, and C20 single-storey extension with catslide roof
between it and C18 extension. 2 storeys. Ground floor, sashes of 16, 12, 16
and 12 lights, early C19 style, and one square bay of sashes, 4-16-4 lights,
with flat roof. First floor, sashes of 12, 12, 16, 12 and 12 lights, early C19
style. 4-panel door. 3 grouped diagonal shafts. Jowled posts, close studding
with curved tension braces trenched to the inside. In middle ground floor room
of 2 bays, large wood-burning hearth repaired at rear, the mantel beam chamfered
with lamb's tongue stops, moulded axial beam with lamb's tongue stops, chamfered
joists of horizontal section with lamb's tongue stops. In right ground floor
room, chamfered axial beam and joists of horizontal section, all with lamb's
tongue stops. Floors raised slightly. Face-halved and bladed scarfs in hoth
wallplates, arched braces to tiebeams (one moved from its original position in
1984), clasped purlin roof with curved wind bracing. Diamond mortices for
unglazed windows in rear wall, some mullions restored. One C17 boarded door and
strap hinges with fleur-de-lys terminations, not in its original position. RCHM
