Circa 1830-40 Gothicised stucco villa. 2 storeys and attic. West entrance
front has 3 gabled bays of increasing width to south and stepped out from
each other. Ornamental bargeboards to gables with finials. 3 windows
to each floor, those in narrow north bay have been altered. 2-light mar-
ginal glazed Gothic casements in attic. Superimposed bay windows to ground
and 1st floors in wide southern bay: 7 lights each, transomed. The upper
lights with pointed panes, marginal glazing. Central 1st floor window
is a bowed 2-light casement with bowed hood over. Enclosed central porch
with barrel vaulted leaded roof, side lights with intersecting glazing
bars. Recessed door of 2 fielded panels. Semi-circular fanlight with
central round gene and glazing bars curving up each side. Architrave
case. South garden front is more symmetrical. 1st floor flanked by pilaster
strips with pointed arched panels. Central projecting gabled bay with
attic. Ornamental bargeboards and similar fascia to wide eaves, One
Gothic casement in attic. 3 windows 1st floor, outer ones sashes with
marginal Gothic glazing. Each has bracketed anthemion and vitruvian scroll
balcony. Centre window is a 2 light French casement with marginal glazing.
Similar but wider balcony to other windows. Tent roof verandah on ground
floor With later wood supports, the centre projects and is enclosed with
marginal glazed lights and door. Probably later alteration. Long Orchard
is part of a group of early to mid C19 villas in particularly fine settings
on a residential cul-de-sac in the upper part of the town.
