Canal bridge. Circa 1805 for the Somerset Coal Canal Company. The surveyor to
the Company was William Smith, the "Father of British Geology"; the engineer for
the adjacent flight of locks (q.v.) was probably William Bennet. Ashlar. Single
span arch with keystone. Parapet over a plain cornice. Supporting walls below
adjoin a lock to the south. (K.R. Clew The Somersetshire Coal Canal and Railway.)
