Church. 1863 with C20 extension. By W B Stewart. Dressed limestone on moulded
chamfered plinth; limestone ashlar dressings; slate roof. West bellcote; 4-bay
aisled nave and south porch; chancel and vestry. Extension added on nave north
side. West end has dwarf offset-buttresses and lancets with chamfered sill
bands separated by centre buttress. Trefoil light in gable end. Gabled bellcote
on chamfered plinth with two pointed arches on colonnettes and clock face on
east side. Gabled porch has chamfered pointed opening and 2 early corbel heads
reset inside. Double-chamfered doorway contains pointed door with fine wrought-iron
hinges. Buttressed nave has 3 pairs of lancets, one to west of porch and 2
to east, over chamfered sill band. Nave north side has lancets at each side
of extension. Chancel has angle buttress at east end and pointed priest's door
flanked by lancets. East window of 3 stepped lancets over chamfered sill band.
All openings except those in nave north wall have corbelled hoodmoulds. Coped
gables and shaped kneelers to steeply pitched roofs. Gablets on bellcote.
Interior: north arcade of double-chamfered pointed arches on cylindrical piers
with moulded capitals. Double-chamfered pointed chancel arch, the inner order
corbelled, with corbelled hoodmould. Pillar piscina preserved at east end of
aisle. Norman tub font on C19 pedestal. Wall monument to members of the Russell
family, by Skelton of York, c1846.
