5/11 Holling Grange Farmhouse

Farmhouse. Probably C17 with mid-C19 alterations and extension. Timber-
framed, sandstone rubble, concrete tiled roofs and end stacks. Roughly square
plan consisting of C17 main range aligned west-south-west/east-north-east with
C19 extensions to north and east. Two storeys. South elevation has two windows,
2-light early C20 casements, with segmental heads to ground floor; entry in mid-
C19 lean-to on right-hand side with ledged door. Northern C19 extension has one
storey and attic under catslide roof, contemporary 2-light casements with
segmental head and apsidal bread oven. West elevation has partly rendered
external end stack with off-sets to the left of which is a 3-light window with
diamond-section oak mullions. East elevation has a small area of timber-framing,
with wattle-and-daub infill, exposed in gable. Interior noted as having plank-
and-muntin screen extending northwards across main range from slightly left of
centre of garden front, at the south end of the screen is a chamfered segmental
head (RCHM Vol I, p 11).
