- Fair Oak Farmhouse

GV II

Former house, enlarged into barn and cart shed. Possibly C16 origins,
enlarged in C18 and again in C19. Thinly coursed rubble, timber-frame,
weatherboards, slate roof, end stack to north. Five bays aligned north/
south with gabled late C19 projection at right angles to west of second
bay from north; former house occupies the 2 northernmost bays and has
gable access plan; southern part is cart shed with tollet over. East
elevation has rubble to 2 left hand bays, weatherboards to 3 right hand
bays; rubble gable ends, small C18 3-light wooden mullioned window to west
of end stack. Entrance east of stack, through pegged door frame with run-
out stop chamfers extending only about two thirds of the lengths of jambs
and lintol, second entrance to south gable into cart shed. Interior: former
house part has large fireplace with straight-cut stop chamfered oak lintol.
Two large ceiling beams placed longitudinally also have stop chamfers.
Northernmost truss has sawn off tie and C16 thickened collar cambered on
top and bottom. House part is separated from the rest by framed partition
with queen strut truss; remaining trusses have raking struts.
