Rectangular range of farm buildings around courtyard at Netherton
Hall Farm.
GV
II
Farm buildings. Probably c.1775 (date of Netherton Hall q.v.). Coursed
dressed stone with raised ashlar quoins. Stone slate roofs. Rectangular
arrangement around a central courtyard. Symmetrical 7-bay front. The centre
bay breaks forward slightly and is pedimented (the moulded copings to the
gable mainly gone). Central segmental-arched quoined cart entry. Single-
light windows in raised surround some with glazing bars. Later openings to
ground floor bays 1 and 5. Low addition to right not of special interest.
Central 1st-floor plain plaque.
Band between floors. Moulded eaves cornice.
5-bay left and right returns are similarly treated but without the central
break and pediment. The left return has several altered ground-floor
openings and a large later opening at left end. The rear is more plain with
a central cart-entry as before and a single high-level light at each end
(that to right altered to doorway). The courtyard has opposed cart entrances
and several C17 re-used doorways in the 3-bay return walls. Later cast-iron
columns support an iron and glass roof to the courtyard. Large fishbone roof
trusses to the buildings.
