Formerly known as: Frenchwood House.
Pair of houses, now 4 dwellings. 1774 or earlier, very much
altered. Painted brick, with slate roof. Double-depth plan.
Two storeys, a long range with 9 windows at 1st floor. Nos 24
and 26 each have a wide doorway with reeded surround and
recessed doorcase with engaged Tuscan columns, moulded lintel,
elliptical fanlight with radiating tracery, and panelled door
(that to No.26 damaged by settlement); No.24 has two 12-pane
sashes at ground floor, 2 similar windows above plus a 4-pane
sash and a tall casement; No.25 has an inserted door and large
altered window at ground floor, two 12-pane windows at 1st
floor (one altered as top-hung casement); No. 26 has two
12-pane sashes on each floor; No. 27 has altered fenestration.
Rear: No.24 has sashed windows with margin panes, Nos 25 and
27 have canted bays, that at No.25 2-storeyed. INTERIOR not
inspected. History: occupied in earlier C19 by members of the
Swainson family, textile manufacturers (Swainson and Birley,
Fishwick Mills).
