Monument. 1835. By Philip Sambell, statue 1852 by Neville
Northy Burnard, sculptor, to celebrate the discoveries
(including the source of River Niger in 1827) of the Lander
brothers, Richard and John and in memory of Richard who died
during an expedition; site donated by Sir Charles Lemon;
erected by Bowden of Helston, builders. Dressed granite fluted
Doric column on square ashlar plinth, surmounted by carved
statue of Richard Lander.
