Pair of houses. c1843. By Walter Scott. Stucco, part now rough
cast rendered, with Welsh slate roof. 2 storeys, symmetrically
planned, each house of 2-unit and double-depth plan with side
entrances. Outer pedimented gabled bays advanced with angle
pilasters with low relief decoration. Canted bay windows to
ground floor, the parapets enriched with low relief carved
griffins. Upper windows renewed in original stressed round
arched architraves. Inner bays have renewed windows, the
stressed architraves removed from No.30. Entrances in return
elevations each side, in advanced gable. Paired doors with
fanlights in moulded architraves. Paired round headed windows
renewed in original openings above with mask keyblocks, lion
corbels and swags. Solid balconies carried on corbels with low
relief panels. Side wall and axial stacks. The houses form
part of the original development of Clifton Park, laid out by
Scott as a villa estate.
