Terrace of 6 houses and 2 shops. c1840, with late C19
alterations. Brick with Welsh slate roof. 2 storeys, 14-window
range, the shops forming projecting outer bays. Houses have
round-arched doorways with 4-panelled doors with traceried
fanlights recessed in simple architraves with incised
decoration. 9-pane sash windows on each floor with flat-arched
gauged brick heads. Simple moulded wood eaves. Shops in
projecting end-blocks, each with 2 windows over shop front,
and hipped roof. Inserted shop front on angle with Peel
Street, a late C19 shop front to James Street corner, with
incised decoration to architrave and doorway across angle. End
wall stacks. Nos 1-5 James Street (qv) form one return of this
terrace.
