Drinking trough, retaining wall, steps and piers. c.1872 (? by C F Hayward) for
H A Brassey, the Railway King. Rough-faced rubble, ashlar moulded coping and
dressings. Shallow quadrant retaining wall with shaped flower-bed wall in front.
About 4-5 feet high. Central arched feature, with ball finials, to circular
pool, rock-hewn 'cavern' with pool inside. Steps with curved plan to right,
ball-capped piers at base. To left, entrance gate-piers with ball finials, to
former kitchen courtyard. Both sets of piers of rough-faced drum construction.
