House. Designed in 1929 by Frank Scarlett of the firm of Scarlett and Ashworth and built in 1930 for Colonel and Mrs Templar in International Modern style. Rendered brick with cavity walls and metal balcony. Flat roof. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with 3 windows to south-east or garden front. Windows were 3-light metal casements, taller on ground floor but all except 5-light central ground floor combined window and french window have been replaced ip matching style in late C20. Central bay is recessed and has metal balcony and access door from principal bedroom. End chimneystacks. South-west front has 3 metal framed casements including tall and narrow staircase window to left. Main entrance to right of this window has brick surround in stretcher bond, 3 steps, flat hood and original door with tall central glazed panel. INTERIOR: winder staircase and galleried hall across full height central drawing room. Original flush doors with cherrywood handles (two folding) survive and also original built-in wardrobes to bedroom 2 and built-in kitchen units. Original ceramic fireplace in living/dining room but re-located from another position in the house. Some original light fittings. This is only the third building in this country built in the international modern style.
