GV II
House, now a nursery school. Late C19. Limestone ashlar,
hipped slate roof with 2 moulded axial ashlar stacks to the
internal walls. Double-depth plan.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; symmetrical 3-window range. Plain eaves
band, platband, pilasters and plinth. Canted bays to the
ground floor with cornices and pierced guilloche parapets over
plain architraves with rounded corners and plate-glass sash
windows. Steps up to a 4-panel door with overlight and shallow
hood on brackets below a 2/2-pane sash window. To the
1st-floor right is a 3/3-pane sash, to the left a plate-glass
sash window.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: the front garden is enclosed by a low
coped ashlar wall, corner piers and gate piers with pyramidal
caps.
One of a group of houses in New Road built after the arrival
of the railway in 1840-41.
