Hay barn with byres. Mid C17, altered C20. Coursed squared
gritstone, stone slate roof. 5 bays, single aisle on S (yard)
side. Quoins, gable copings with syma-moulded kneelers.
South front: central (blocked) cart entrance has chamfered
jamb stones linked on left to narrow doorway with chamfered
quoined surround; to left again a doorway altered to window
with trough recess below and flanking small square windows.
Doorway to right of cart entrance is similar, with chamfered
surround and flanking square windows.
Rear (N) side: no aisle, the cart entrance has a chamfered
segmental arch; 2 tiers of slit vents, inserted window left.
Left return (W end): a segmental-arched opening at apex of
gable, square window below, 3 blocked vents, added
single-storey lean-to. Right return (E end): small paired
vents in gable, square loading door below, added single-storey
lean-to.
INTERIOR: king-post trusses with short braces rising from
tie-beam to principal rafters; 2 tiers of trenched purlins to
main roof and to aisle; aisle posts have straight braces to
tie beam and aisle plate which has scarfed joints; wooden
slate pegs.
A very fine and complete example of a C17 barn (reputed to
have been built between 1620 and 1640).
