Lace warehouse, now workshops. Dated 1861. By TC Hine of
Nottingham for E Steegman. Additions 1880 and 1911. Red brick,
with ashlar ground floor, ashlar, blue brick and yellow brick
dressings and slate roof. Italianate style.
EXTERIOR: plinth, ground floor cornice, second floor sill
band, eaves cornice. Windows are original cast-iron glazing
bar casements to the ground floor, and original plain sashes
above. 3 storeys plus attics; 5 bays. Symmetrical front with
projecting centre and end bays. Centre bay has a moulded
round-arched cart entrance with wrought-iron gates, flanked by
roundels with date and monogram ES. Above, a Venetian window,
and above again, a flat-headed 3-light window. Attic has a
dormer with round-arched window and segmental pediment,
flanked by sidelights and panelled pedestals.
Side bays have 3 windows on each floor, with round heads to
first floor and segmental heads to ground and second floors.
Attic has 3 round-arched windows set in the parapet.
Right end bay has a round-arched moulded doorway with
traceried spandrels and 4-panel door. Above, a Venetian
window, and above again, a 3-light window. Attic has a shaped
coped gable with a Venetian window, and above it, a blank
roundel. Left end bay has similar fenestration, with a ground
floor loading door, with sidelights and fanlight.
INTERIOR: ground floor has conventional construction with
round cast-iron columns and wooden cross beams.
