Public house. Circa mid to late C17, extended in circa C18 and with C20
alterations and extensions. Ironstone rubble with dressed quoins. Thatched
roofs with gabled ends. Gable-end stacks with brick shafts.
PLAN: 2-room plan house on right with central entrance, now one large room;
right-hand room heated from a large gable-end fireplace with winder stair to
side; the left room's gable-end fireplace blocked. Circa C18 one-room plan
wing behind right-hand room and barn attached to left end, now part of public
house accommodation. C20 single-storey extensions at rear.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attic house on right, asymmetrical 2-window north
front. C20 2-light casements on 1st floor with glazing bars and wooden
lintels; canted bays on the ground floor also with glazing bars and C20
glazed porch between. Lower barn on left with similar bay on right, central
doorway and 2-light casement on left. At rear, gable-ended wing on left with
thatched roof and single-storey C20 extensions.
INTERIOR: right-hand room has large stone fireplace with chamfered timber
lintel with notched cyma stops and winder stairs to side. Right and left
rooms have chamfered axial beams with cyma stops and slightly chamfered
joists; now one room. Rear right-hand room has unchamfered joists exposed.
Right-hand chamber has chamfered axial beam with notched cyma stops, left
chamber's axial beam has run-out stops. Fielded 2-panel doors. Attic chamber
ceiled but 2 tiers of large side purlins are exposed.
