11/10 The Old Wagon and
Horses

Marked on OS map as Lawnside
House, sometime a public house. Early C17 with alterations in the C18, C19,
refurbished 1980. Roughly coursed limestone with Cotswold stone roof. Plan of two
unequal rooms with stair between, outshut to right, gabled scullery wing to rear
and small modern gabled extension. Two storeys and attic with lower storey on
falling ground in the outshut to right. Ground floor has three light casement,
C19 gabled porch, three light casement, first floor has ditto casements with single
light over porch, further 3 light casement in outshut. C18 gabled dormer, rebuilt
gable stacks. The casements are all modern (1988) replicas of the C19 replacements.
The outshut has two 2 light plain chamfered recessed mullioned windows. Interior:
Parlour with 1/4-roll-moulded beams and joists. Kitchen with chamfered beam and large
fireplace with oak lintel. Scullery (now kitchen) with revealed roof truss. Stair
with C18 stick balusters but possibly older treads. Framing revealed to upper hall.
Principal rafter roof of large scantling with heavy collars and butt purlins.
Rafters halved and pegged at apex.
