18 almshouses. Dated 1899. Paid for by George Woofindin. Red
brick with moulded brick and ashlar dressings and plain tile
roofs. Each block has 2 paired ridge stacks and 2 gable
stacks, all coped.
EXTERIOR: plinth and first floor band. 3 blocks set at an
obtuse angle and linked by gabled archways. 2 storeys; 19 bays
arranged 6: 7: 6. Windows are mainly cross casements with
stone mullions and transoms.
Central block has central gable with gabled central panel
containing inscription and datestone. Below, central
round-arched doorway with glazed double doors and label mould,
and above it, a 3-light overlight with mullions. On either
side, a tall 3-light window.
Beyond, on each side, 3 gabled through-eaves dormers with
3-light windows. Below, a canted and hipped double bay window,
3 lights, flanked on the inner side by a round-arched doorway
with hoodmould, and on the outer side by 2 similar doorways.
Beyond again, a single canted bay window. At each end of the
block, a round-arched doorway under a steep pitched coped
gable with ball finial.
Flanking blocks have each 6 through-eaves dormers with 3-light
windows. Below, 2 doorways flanked by double bay windows, then
double doorways, then single bay windows.
