Service wing and cottage. 1839 and 1855. For Samuel Roberts.
Enlarged for the Duke of Norfolk. Rock-faced stone with ashlar
dressings, roof not visible. 2 brick side wall stacks.
Crenellated Gothic style.
Plinth, crenellated parapets, round corner towers. Courtyard
has to east a Tudor arched gateway with traceried wooden gates
and false portcullis, flanked by buttresses carrying round
turrets with crosslets. Crenellated parapet above the gate. At
the north-west corner, a machicolated octagonal tower, 2
stages, with 2-light mullioned windows with label moulds. On
the north side, a square lodge, 2 storeys. North-west side has
a C20 casement to left and below, central chamfered doorway
flanked by single 2-light mullioned windows under common label
mould. Between the door and the left window, a smaller single
window. Rear has similar but simpler fenestration.
INTERIOR not inspected.
