House and attached gateway. c1875. By TC Hine of Nottingham.
Brick, now roughcast and painted, with stucco dressings and
hipped slate roofs. 4 side wall and 2 ridge stacks.
EXTERIOR: blue brick plinth, ground floor impost band, moulded
first floor band and sill band, coved cornice. Windows are
mainly original plain sashes. 2 storeys plus attics; 3 x 3
bays.
Entrance front has a central projecting porch, 3 bays, with a
round-arched doorway and fanlight flanked by Ionic pilasters
and topped by an entablature. On each side, a round-arched
window with moulded surround. Above, 4 similar windows,
flanked by external stacks, with similar windows beyond. Above
again, single flat-headed windows in each of the corniced
chimney stacks.
Garden front has a recessed centre with a round-headed window
below and a plain sash above. To right, a wing with a pair of
round-headed sashes below and a pair of plain sashes above. To
left, a canted bay window, 3 sashes, which rises through 3
floors to form a large octagonal cupola. Ground floor has
round-headed sashes. Above, plain sashes, those to the second
floor smaller. Cupola has a sham balcony and round-headed
openings, 2 blocked, divided by Ionic pilasters.
South front has an external stack flanked by single
round-headed sashes. Slightly projecting off-centre bay with
C20 conservatory on the ground floor and above, a triple sash.
Above again, a moulded gable with a smaller tripartite sash.
INTERIOR retains many original features. Central staircase
hall has inlaid wooden marquetry floor and dado panelling.
Good quality single flight return staircase with pierced
balustrade, and landing with round-arched arcade with coloured
marble columns and moulded capitals. Ground floor rooms are
said to contain dado panelling, fireplaces and contemporary
plaster ceilings. Bathroom is said to contain early bath with
combined shower fitting.
Outside, to left, a gateway with square columns, chamfered
plinth and cornice caps, topped with ball finials. Renewed
wrought-iron gates. Short length of coped wall on each side.
