2/245 Mortimers and Snows
GV II
2 cottages. C18 and C19, both thoroughly modernised circa 1970. Partly exposed
rubble, partly roughcast cob; rubble stacks topped with C19 and C20 brick;
thatched roof. Pair of 2-room plan cottages facing south-east. Right (north-east)
cottage is Mortimers and has central through passage and end stacks, the left stack
shared by adjoining Snows Cottage to south-west. Snows has late C19-early C20
slate-roofed rear block. 2 storeys. Irregular 6-window front overall. Mortimers
has C20 PVC windows of various sizes and if a fifth window existed left of centre
would have almost symmetrical front. Snows has irregularly disposed windows of
various sizes but all are late C19 casements with glazing bars and unusually tall
and narrow panes. Roof hipped to left, gable-ended to right. Plain carpentry
detail inside. Roofs not inspected. Mortimers probably C18 cottage and Snows
added in C19.
