Description

SS 70 SE SANDFORD LOWER NEWBUILDINGS

2/244 Rosebank

GV II

Farmhouse converted to 3 cottages, now one house. Possibly C16 core, cottages
probably late C18-early C19, united and modernised in mid C20. Plastered cob on
rubble footings; rubble stacks with rendered brick chimney shafts; wheat reed
thatched roof. Formerly three 1-room cottages facing south-east with rear lateral
stack to right (north-east) room and central lateral stack with oven housing
projecting to front. 2 storeys. Irregular 6-window front of mainly late C19 and
C20 casements of various sizes, most with glazing bars. The left end first floor
2-light casement has 8 rectangular panes of leaded glass per light and may be early
C19. Roof is half-hipped at each end. Interior is modernised and shows plain late
C18-early C19 carpentry but layout suggests possible C16 core of 3-room-and-
through-passage plan. Roof not inspected.
