Large house, dated 1576 on lintel of rear doorway, altered and wing added in
later C18 (this demolished), altered and enlarged at various dates in later
C19; now 2 dwellings. Mostly sandstone ashlar with roofs of slate and
lead-cladding, various chimneys. East-west range of different builds and
varied form at the rear but unified Jacobean-style facade to the south, large
double-depth crosswing at west end, tower at east end. Mostly 2-storey south
front has bands on 2 levels and embattled parapet; hall-range of 4 bays (3rd
projecting) has mostly large mullion and transom windows on both floors, those
in the projecting bay coupled and a small 3-light attic window in the
crow-stepped gable. To the left the wing in matching style, with similar
crow-stepped gable, has inter alia a 2-storey bay window; to the right,
slightly set back, 3-stage tower has bands to each stage, embattled parapet
and central flagmast, and similar but smaller mullion and transom windows on
each floor of the front and return walls. Interior interior said to
contain features of interest.
