Terraced town house, the largest of this row. c.1736 by
Roger Balgrave, carpenter, heightened early C.19. Stucco faced, slate
roof. 3 original storeys and basement with added attic storey. 4
windows wide. C.19 archivolt arched brick porch with later stucco
facing, to right. Recessed,flat arched windows with glazing bar
sashes to ground and 2nd and 3rd floors. Main stone cornice over 2nd
floor, attic coping. Ornate Victorian cast iron balconettes to 1st
floor. Wrought iron area railings. Interior retains original plan
with front compartment staircase with good plaster ceiling, stone
stairs with later S pattern balustrade, secondary timber staircase to
rear with turned balusters; ground floor front room with plasterwork
ceiling ornamented with central head of Apollo and busts in margins.
Richard Westmacott the sculptor added a rear top lit corridor and
single storey room probably as a gallery and studio, and this remains
in part. Residence of Admiral Boscawen and of his widow 1747-55 and
1764-1805, then residence and studio premises of
(Sir) Richard Westmacott from 1818 to his death in 1856 (L.C.C.
plaque).
