Pair of end of terrace town houses. c.1738-39. Brown brick with red
brick dressings, slate roofs. 4 storeys and basement with early to
mid C.19 dormered mansard. 2 window wide astylar fronts. The
entrance of No. 9 was moved in the early C.19 round corner to Hill
Street where a 3 storey projection carried on 3 stone, pedestalled
Doric columns, was added c.1754. Square headed recessed porch; the
ground floor of this projection is stuccoed and the colonnade supports
an entablature returned to main block. The semicircular arched
doorway to right of No. 10 is early C.19 with patterned fanlight.
Recessed sashes, glazing bars intact to No. 9, under flat gauged
arches. Ground floor plat band and sill bands to upper floors;
parapet with coping. The projection to side of No. 9 has plain
Venetian 1st floor window and blind windows flanking centre window on
floors above. The rear of No. 9 has original bow whilst No. 10 is
flat but with a careful "Venetian" grouping of the 1st and 2nd floor
windows. Iron balconies to 1st floor of No. 10. Wrought iron, urn
finialed area railings. Good, little altered interiors with central
top lit stair compartment and one room front and back, retaining much
of original panelling, doorcases, chimney pieces, fine compartmented
Rococo plaster ceiling to rear ground floor of No. 9 and similar to
rear ground floor of No. 10, wrought iron staircase balustrades etc.
