Cottage. c1770, altered and extended c1845 when probably one bay to the left
hand was demolished and a substantial wing built. Cottage of local brick,
English bond with reed thatch roof and tumbled gable end parapet. Original
ridge stack and slightly later end stack. One storey and attic. One
dormer. Segmental arches of header bricks to doorway with original six
raised and fielded panelled door and two original window openings, part
blocked. The gable end has red brick diaper pattern brickwork, similar to
that of the Rectory, Coates (q.v.) dated 1774. The c1845 addition is of
amber gault brick, also English bond, with low pitch slate roof. Two
storeys. Road elevation has original doorway and raised and fielded panelled
door. One hung sash to each storey. Inside: A partition wall is lined with
vertical panelling with raised and fielded panels to two doors. This
vertical panelling, c1770, is similar to that at Nos. 2, 3, The Bower,
Whittlesey (q.v.).
