Pair of terraced houses. c1700-04 as part of the original Queen Square
development and of one build with No 15 q.v. Brown brick with red dressings,
slate roofs. 3 storeys and basement, original dormers in steeply pitched,
hipped roof to No 17, later dormered mansard to No 19. Each 3 windows wide,
plus blind half-window. Entrances to right, approached by steps, retain
exceptional wood doorcases with panelled pilasters on pedestals and canopy
cornice-hoods with pendant finials carved with all over foliage enrichment.
Flush framed glazing bar sashes under flat gauged red brick arches, those on
1st and 2nd floors with carved mask keystones. Stone plat bands, continued from
No 15, over ground and 1st floors, as is original wood modillion eaves cornice.
Pedimental leaded casement dormers to No 17. Wrought iron area railings with
flambé torch finials. Interior largely intact to No 19, alterations to No 17,
and cut and carved string staircases with twisted balusters etc. Part of an
exceptional group of Queen Anne houses.
