5/166 Higher House Farmhouse

Farmhouse: mid to late C18 with some C19 alterations. Flemish bond
red brick with white pointing on sandstone plinth. Welsh slate roof
and 2 gable brick chimneys. 2-storey (and blind attic), symmetrical
3-bay front. End bays have 3-light wooden casements with iron windows
under cambered brick heads. Central steps forward slightly under
simple triangular pediment and has a 6-panelled door approached by 3
stone steps under a cambered brick head with a stone keystone behind
an open gabled timber porch. Above is a blocked window and a carved
stone plaque of the Stanley eagle both now hidden by a creeper.
Interior: Exposed ceiling beams and openwork pierced catches on lower
casements.
To rear of house is a dairy with a blue and white tiled interior of
c.1900 with a large panel of 2 milkmaids.
