5/167 Barn 22m to rear of
Higher House Farmhouse

GV II

Barn: later C16 with additions of c.1700 and some C20 alterations.
Partly timber framed with brick nogging, partly English garden wall
bond brick on stone plinth. Kerridge stone-slate roof and stone
ridge. L-shaped plan. North range is a 4-bay barn with walls of
regular small timber frames and angle bracing of wall plate. Gables
have circular brick pitchholes and there is a large cart entrance in
the south face.
Interior: Roof trusses have angle braced tiebeam with 2 queen posts
and a collar. Lower purlins are windbraced.

East range is brick with stone quoins. External staircase against
south end with 6-hole pigeon cote in gable. To rear are 3 windows
with brick hood moulds (1 with a mullion surviving). To front
openings altered.
Interior: Roof trusses of tiebeam with 2 pairs of diagonal struts.
