Three shops and flat. c1880. Polychrome brick with ashlar
dressings; roof of graduated stone slates with stone ridge and
chimneys.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 4-window range, with 2-window return.
4-panel house door at right of second bay with shaped
overlight in moulded stone surround with shaped head. All but
one house window plain sashes, 2-light window to left of door
has central shaft and segmental heads to openings with stopped
chamfers, and shares corniced ashlar panel with door. Canted
oriel on first floor at left has similar heads to sashes,
panelled aprons, and top cornice. First-floor sill band and
stepped drip string. Shop front at left has canted left
corner, decorative tiled stall-riser to all windows, the angle
with pictorial scene and the other with: JOHNSON in the tiles.
Left shop front has half-glazed door at right, with shaped
hinged overlight; shop windows have 3-pane top lights; scroll
brackets support entablature with attached hinged iron stays
for cloth canopy. 2 shop fronts to right in similar style but
with plain stall-risers, and that at left with altered fascia
and without canopy. Roof has brick-corbelled eaves gutter
cornice, is hipped at left, and has chimneys of thin courses
of stone with ashlar quoins and coping. Left return to Galgate
has shop window to right, and step up to renewed door at left
in deeply moulded stone surrund with cornice.
