II
Almshouses. 1851 (dated stone). Carstone slate walls with gault brick
and limestone dressings. Steeply pitched slate roofs and nine tall
square stacks of gault brick with linked capping some retaining original
embattlements and stop chamfered corners. Two storeys. Front elevation
in five bays, including three slightly projecting parapetted gables. Two
stage buttressing. Doorway to centre bay in four centred arch with
boarded door and C13 style ironwork. Above doorway is inscription in
stone panel "Erected by Trustees of March Consolidated Charities" and
the date 1851. Rusticated stone surrounds to five cross frame casements
with leaded lights, some with drip moulds.
