Early English Gothic tower arches. The tower, when first built, used much ironstone for strength. So we can see where a previous, steep-pitched, nave roof met the tower east wall. A narrow south aisle abutted the tower at the same time. Above these can be seen the lines of a shallow pitched roof. The nave was built taller and C15 a clerestory added to give more light. The aisles were also rebuilt wider, initially to accomodate chantry chapels. (Photo Sept 2007).
