House, now council offices. 1801-1809. For Jacob Ridley.
Sandstone ashlar with a slate roof. Double-depth plan with a
doorway and rear wing to the left, and chimney stacks on both
gables. 3 tall storeys above a cellar, and 3 bays with a sill
band on the first floor and an eaves cornice. The doorway, in
the left-hand bay, is approached up a flight of 4 steps,
parallel to the wall; it has a pedimented Ionic sandstone
doorcase. The door has 9 raised and fielded panels under an
overlight with radiating glazing bars. The steps to the
doorway are protected by bar railings with ball finials to the
standards. All the windows have plain reveals and glazing bar
sashes, giving 12 panes on the ground and first floors, and 9
on the second floor. Single-storey extension to right-hand
side is not of special interest.
