Cottage. 1812. By John Nash and George Repton. For JS Harford.
Random rubble with brick lateral stacks and a thatched hipped
roof. Single-depth plan. Picturesque style.
Single-storey and attic; 1-window range. Right-hand open porch
to a plank door. A pent roof to front and side, extends over
an open bay to the right with bracketed sides and bench,
raised over the porch. Leaded casements, to a canted oriel on
the front, a small bracketed attic oriel in the front gable
and a half dormer to the right. Paired diagonally-set stacks
to the left-hand elevation.
INTERIOR not inspected, but reported as having a rear winder
stair sitting room and back pantry.
Arranged by Harford for his retired employees. Part of an
irregular composition forming '...the nec plus ultra of
picturesque layout and design,' (Pevsner). The cottages are
laid out around an open green, and were modernised c1975.
