Cottage. 1812. By John Nash and George Repton. For JS Harford.
Random rubble with brick lateral stacks and a stone tile
hipped roof. Single-depth plan. Picturesque style.
Single-storey and attic; 1-window range. A right-hand open
doorway to a porch beneath a swept roof, and a plank door. A
pent with brackets extends from the left-hand corner over
bench to a central canted bay. Leaded lattice casements, 2
lights to the bay, and 2-light half dormers above, and to the
right-hand side. Left-hand triple diagonally-set stacks.
INTERIOR not inspected, but reported as having a winder stair,
sitting room and pantry.
Arranged by Harford for his retired employees. Part of an
irregular composition forming '...the nec plus ultra of
picturesque layout and design,' (Pevsner). The cottages are
laid out around an open green, and were modernised c1975.
