House, later 2 shops and flat with ground floor shop on The
Bank and second shop on left return to Newgate. Late C18 with
early C19 shop. Coursed squared hammer-dressed stone with
quoins and painted tooled ashlar dressings; roof of stone
slates with stone ridge and brick chimneys. 3 storeys;
1-window range, with 2-storey, 3-window, range to Newgate.
Elevation to The Bank has moulded plinth and ashlar
stall-riser to full-width projecting shop front: foliage
capitals on slender angle pilasters, and wood mullions and
transoms to 4-light window under entablature. Painted stone
surrounds to plain sashes above. Roof hipped at left, gabled
at right with stone coping resting on moulded kneeler. Ridge
chimneys at right and on rear range. Left return to Newgate
(formerly to a lane but now revealed by demolition of corner
house): steps up to shop front at right with central door
recessed between plate-glass windows in slender pilasters and
entablature, with corner paterae. Blocked window to left, and
step up to inserted door to left of that. Plain surrounds to 3
first-floor sashes. INTERIOR: not inspected.
