After 1548 and before 1563. Now a garden pavilion. Originally the entrance
to the house from north of courtyard. Said to have been designed by Hans
Holbein (died 1543). Removed to present position by Wyatt circa 1800.
A splendid 2 storey porch, square in plan with freestanding corner set back
paired columns. Highly ornamented. Ashlar. Corners rebated. Ground floor
Ionic. 1st floor Corinthian, both fluted and reeded. Plinth and bases
to ground floor, entablature of ground floor acts as plinth to 1st floor.
Elaborate cresting of coupled fan pediments, griffins and urns. Each front
has a central panel of arms and 2 busts in roundels on 1st floor. On ground
floor entrances on 3 sides with elaborate architraves. Inside is a moulded
cornice with bracket corbels below seven 3-centred moulded ribs with central
pendants. Traces of colour.
